What you’d better not do

There are also things you’d better not do because they will probably only make you feel worse:

  • Tuck away your feelings. You don’t have to pretend that nothing has happened. It is OK to feel rotten but do try to move on to the order of the day.

  • Cut yourself off from others. Rather, look up other people and talk with them about the event if you feel you’d need to. And if you don’t feel like talking about it, that’s OK, too. Writing things down could also help.

  • Try not to watch too many serious things on TV. Of course it is important to get information but seeing lots of suffering and horrific images over and over again can also make you feel worse.
